Plants To Go is the online plant nursery of Riverside Horticulture.


A five hectare native plant nursery situated on the outskirts of Rangiora, North Canterbury that specialise in New Zealand native plants, hedging and plants for landscaping.

Riverside Horticulture is one on the oldest nursery businesses in New Zealand and was established in 1856 on Ivory Street in Rangiora by Henry Ivory. The business has remained with family ownership and is now run by Andrew Dartnall a great, great grandson of the original owner and a seventh generation horticulturalist.

Riverside propagate from seed (eco-sourced where possible) and cuttings. With decades of experience our staff are well versed in all the secrets of growing hardy plants that will establish easily.

Riverside Horticulture has an established name within the Horticulture Industry for supplying quality plants and is passionate about the re-vegetation and eco-restoration of our natural habitat areas as well as assisting property owners increase the value of their property with the planting of hedges and shrubs etc.



Riverside Horticulture Ltd are focused on producing high quality native and exotic plants through our established nursery production system. We have a range of green houses to take the plants from seeds or tiny cuttings through to established plants ready to be planted in the outdoor climate, Once the cuttings have developed roots they are taken from the propagation houses and put into the green houses where they continue to grow in their larger pots, Riverside has greenhouses with heated flooring system which stimulates excellent growth during the freezing winter months, from here the plants are potted into larger pots again and put into the ourdoor nursery to harden off and become ready for sale. We also have a great range of large trees available with the appropriate infrastructure in place to create a healthy growing environment.

Riverside Horticulture has a team of 12 dedicated members who work hard to keep the nursery in excellent shape and produce quality plants to the market.

Riverside Horticulture's primary focus is growing top quality plants and supplying them to landscapers, other nurseries, retailers and direct to the public, our nursery is open on Fridays for retail customers. In addition to this Riverside Horticulture carries out supply and planting projects which are almost entirely re-vegetation on rural farms so as not to compete with our residential, commercial and civil landscape customers. Riverside has carried out many farm planting projects mainly on Dairy farms around Canterbury and can work with you on.
